Help on sentences

Hi. please help me with these.

1. Could we start with an adverb (not an adverbial phrase)?

eg,

Sadly, he couldn't pay for the coffee that time.

2. Is it correct to have what I think is an adverbial phrase modifying an object (like the word "methods" in the sentence below)?

eg,

It prompted him to change his teaching method, making it more content-oriented.

3. Is it correct to use a past tense with a time phrase like "from a few years ago till now" or "from 19XX till now"?

eg,

He held a full-timejob from a few years ago/from 19XX till now.

4. I am sorry but please help me with this, too. I think I have seen writings where a word or a phrase is in the middle of sentences with a period at the end. Is this a correct way to write sentences?

(made-up sentences-counting a long phrase with a comma-and a made-up ellipted sentence)

eg,



He was startled to see a giant standing before him. A huge person with bulging arms and legs, which were probably double the size of his. Everyone else in the premises was ...
