Help ON pronunciation: Z, A,Th and The

Emotion: smile Greetings; im a native spanish speaker sinch childhood and therefore im not good at speaking whereas in writing im good.

I have to quick straight questions about the following pronunciations:

Emotion: stick out tongue TH: I've always heard this as a "f" at the beggining and ending of a word containing the "th". But sometimes i hear a "s"

Im confused; what's the right pronunciation for TH, and how do you put both your tongue and teeth.

Z: I know this is pronounced as "Zee" but how do you do to make a right pronunciation with your tongue.

A: I want to know when is that you pronounce "Ei' and when "Ah".

The: When do you say "Di" and when "duh" or "dah"?

I know it is something about vowel, but not sure because i've heard about vowel sound. Once i heard someone saying "di battle" when there's no vowel sound.

Help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks 4 reading!

TH is made by putting the tip of the tongue to the upper front teeth and blowing air between them. Z is a softer S sound, vibrating slightly. A has more than 2 pronounciations, unfortunately.

  • You almost always get the "Ei" sound when a word ends in 'e': Made, jade, fade.

Thanks Vorpar! i really appreciate your help. So what i understood is that you choose which way to pronounce it.

and one last question with the Z thing. How do you put your tongue for Zee?

Yes, it's your choice.

For Z, the tongue is in the same position as for S. It floats just behind the top front teeth without touching anything.

It is only pronounced as "Zee" in American English. In the English of England and the rest of the UK, it is actually pronounced as "Zed".
