Bunn GRX Basic Home Coffee Brewer

Bunn GRX Basic Home Coffee Maker

Coffee has been around for hundreds of years and is globally known throughout the world. Until the late 1900’s we have seen the first automatic drip machine in the United States and has been a hit since. And Bunn is just one of the many manufacturers that create coffee makers.

In the Bunn GRX coffee maker (shown above), a measured amount of cold water is poured into a base. Inside the base, a heating element heats the water to boiling. The steam rises through a tube and condenses. The condensed water is distributed over the ground coffee in the filter through a device like a shower head. The water flows through the filter, infusing with the coffee, and falls into a carafe. Bunn sells makers in a variety of different styles and sizes. They can have pricey high-tech features, or be very simple and inexpensive. So regardless of the price of the coffee maker, the parts are similar. The reason for features on a coffee maker so it allows a owner to be sleeping and the coffee can be made the hour before the person wakes up, by the use of a timer so they can wake up to a fresh brewed batch of coffee in their kitchen.

There are a few parts to a Bunn GRX the first we will talk about is the base. Weighing about seven pounds and a height of fourteen inches it’s very compact and light to fit in your kitchen table. The base is the main piece to the machine. It requires electricity, so it comes with an outlet to be plugged in. The base houses an on/off switch and buttons for the timer along with a clear window to show how much water is in the machine for the amount of desired coffee you would like. Another part of the base is the heating unit and heating base. Bunn has a stainless steel tank with internal thermostat so it keeps water at ideal brewing temperature. I don’t believe anyone would want a brewed batch of coffee and it only happens to come out cold. This key feature works and is an asset for a lot of happy people who own this product. The heater boils the water that is poured into the base at the top. A lid is able to be opened and you pour your water into the machine. The porcelain heated warming base, once after the coffee is already made keeps the coffee hot so a person can enjoy their good ol’ cup of joe.

The next piece going down the machine would be the filter basket. This plastic filter basket is located at the top of the maker in a drawer or slot. This helps keep the grounds separate from the coffee itself so there is no bits and pieces in your drinking coffee. The filter basket is a removable part and can be washed in case a mess is made. The basket is a vital part since it holds your grounds and evenly spread them. The filter basket is made to a certain size so the water can drip throughout the grounds like a shower head.

Another piece is the filter, the filter itself is often disposable or you can purchase a woven metal one to save you time. A paper made of fibers creates a cup shape and fits perfectly into your filter basket. Once in the basket, the grounds are placed in and this allows the coffee to be brewed at a nice slow pace so the coffee can be rich and flavorful. This also doesn’t make a mess since the grounds are in a paper that is disposable. The filter can be taken out of the filter basket with the wet grounds and simply thrown away in the garbage.

The last and probably most important piece to the coffee maker is the carafe. A carafe holds ninety-six ounces of coffee and is approximately the size of a cantaloupe. The carafe is the part that catches the freshly made coffee. Its often has a pitcher shape to it and it also has a lid for cleaning purposes. Depending on the quality but any would work just fine the carafes could be made of aluminum, stainless steel or glass. A glass carafe allows the consumer to see how much was brewed in the carafe. It increments on the glass by the amount of desired cups of coffee someone would want brewed. While the steel and aluminum would keep the coffee warmer. Smaller carafes are made for smaller machines a normal carafe houses about ten to twelve cups while a smaller only houses two to four cups of coffee. A carafe is dishwasher safe and ideally should be cleaned after every use whether in the dishwasher or just having water ran through the carafe.

To explain again how the machine works and what parts the process goes through is that in the Bunn GRX, a measured amount of cold water is poured into the base. Inside the base, water is boiled. The water is distributed over the ground coffee in the filter through a device like a spray head. The water flows through the filter, mixing in with the coffee, and automatically dripping into a carafe.

While the years go by better and more technologically advanced the coffee makers are becoming. The coffee maker is here to stay and will never be forgotten.
