Help me with this question

I am supposed to choose one correct answer out of four choices.

Jack: Are you looking forward to the trip next week?
Jill : Yes. It will be nice to have a change of scenery.
Jack: Yeah, but all the work will stack up in our absence.
Jill : You should have thought about that before.
Jack: I realize that, but ( ? ).

1. I had too much time.
2. I remember all too well.
3. I was not all that busy.
4. it never occurred to me.

It's a pretty poor question, in my opinion. None of the options clearly stands out as the correct one.

#4 is the one I'd pick as being a slightly better choice than the others.

Blue Jay #4 is the one I'd pick as being a slightly better choice than the others.
If forced, I suppose I would choose #4 too, but I find it unsatisfactory because Jack is the one who raised the point in the first place. It requires an interpretation like "it never occurred to me until it occurred to me".

Yes, I agree it's not ideal.
