Most people have forgotten the meaning behind traditional or religious festivals; during festival periods, people nowadays only want to enjoy themselves. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
It is sometimes argued that people nowadays no longer remember the original stories behind festivals and that enjoyment is our primary goal when engaging in traditional and religious celebrations. To a certain extent, I agree that most of us treat some festivals as opportunites to have fun, however, we do not forget what they mean.
On the one hand, it is true that festivals become times for celebration and relaxation in this modern society. To keep pace with the fast-changing global economy, people have to work harder with fewer day-off, therefore, festivals and national holidays seem to be the best time to escape from the hectic life and spend time for families and friends. For example, in Mid Autumn Festival, one of the most popular festivals in Vietnam, more and more individuals and families prefer having parties, hanging out, dating to making mooncake or watching lion dance.
On the other hand, I don’t agree with the idea that people have forgotten the meaning of festivals. Children are taught at their school about the origins of traditional celebration and religion so they can understand why adults celebrate festivals during the years. Parents and grandparents also play an important role in passing knowledge about traditional and religious values on to their next generations. Furthermore, festivals are revitalised to appeal to young people but still not lose what they mean.
In conclusion, enjoyment is the priority during festival times, however, I believe that people still remember and make efforts to preserve the stories behind these celebrations.
