Help me with this 2 Short texts

How far do you agree/disagree with the following statement about reading in the language classroom:

"Reading is a constant process of guessing, and what one brings to the text is often more important than what one finds in it. This is why, from the very beginning, the students should be taught to use what they know to understand unknown elements, whether these are ideas or simple words. This is best achieved through a global approach to the text." Taken from DEVELOPING READING SKILLS by Françoise Grellet

I wrote two texts, please tell which sounds better

1- I agree with the text, I think that first you have to understand the text as a whole. Sometimes I don't understand some words meaning but I guess what is the main idea the writer is trying to communicate. So your knowledge of grammar, vocabulary are as important as the personal interpretation you give to the text.

When teaching, we have to make aware the students that they should not interpret a phrase so literally because the author could be using a metaphor, an ambiguity or a colloquial phrase.

2- I think it is absolutely important to give the students the main guide to interpreting the texts. They have to learn to use their previous knowledge of words and topics to try to give sense to the text they are reading. Also, they should know that they have to analyse the background of the text and author since they can be giving connotation to words or phrases that differ from the author communication intentions.
