Help me with phrase "get 5% off the top".
Hello guys,
I'm working on the episode of Law and Order:SVU show and I need help with the phrase...you get "5% off the top"...Okay, context: Head of the animal smuggling gang is saying to one of his people how much money he'll get if he smuggle very rare monkey through the customs.
You get the gibbon through customs, you get 5% (?) off the top (?), Mike.
you get 5% off the top = you get 5% from the promised sum of money for that gibbon?
