Help me with my sop!!

(1)When asked to chose among subjects at school, commerce was an obvious choice as I have always enjoyed and been strong in areas that require problem solving, analytical, quantitative skills. Two years of studying commerce made me recognize my interest in the field of finance and during the course of my under graduate studies I indeed developed an avid interest in various fields pertaining to finance and viewed it as an area of interest for further studies. I chose Asset management and financial management as the preferred subjects in the final year of the program as these complied with my affinity towards problem solving and case analysis. Moreover, these helped me in laying a foundation for further studies in the field of finance.

(2)Since the completion of my bachelor’s degree I have been working with my father, who runs a successful garment export firm. This has provided me with in-depth experience in incorporation of cost effective techniques, management of cash flows, implementation of sound investment decisions and research of market trends and competitions. Since the firm is small, my work related to finance was limited to collection and preparation of accounts. This, however, made me realise the importance of finance in a business, irrespective of its scale. After the completion of my post graduation, I plan to obtain a thorough, demanding and rewarding position in this profession. I hope to gain practical corporate experience in areas such as capital management, mergers and acquisitions, risk management, pricing and sales strategies for stability and maximum returns on capital.

(3) At college i was an active member of the commerce society and participated in the society’s symposiums and fests which made my subjects a lot more fun ,attending lectures by professors and companies also kept me in touch with new perspectives on real life economic case studies as well as career opportunities. In the final year of my program at college, I wrote a project report on ‘The Global Economic Meltdown’ which analysed the causes and the effects of the great recession that started in 2007. The project concluded that the recession was not a natural, inevitable catastrophe but rather an outcome of the failure of the policymakers to curtail excessive expansion of credit and a result of the exploitation of the latitude granted to the bankers, who failed to perceive the risks inherent in the financial system. The project made me realise how financially all economies are interdependent in terms of intertwined and interdependent policies , instruments, money flows and trade. Further, interning with an audit firm, ‘Gaurav Goel and associates’, during the summer provided me with some much required on-the-job experience.

(4)Academically i was regarded as a good student, both at the school and the college level, scoring an 89 and 91 percent in the tenth and twelfth standard and obtaining first division scores in college. I was awarded merit certificates for both academics and leadership skills and was elected vice –president of the theatre society in school. I continued working on plays not only in college where i received awards in acting and direction but also after college, and i plan to stay in touch with my love for theatre by reading scripts and watching plays. My experience in the field of theatre, as an actor, has helped me develop excellent communication and public speaking skills. Moreover, directing numerours productions helped me learn how to manage work within budgets, time deadlines as well as with a diverse group of people. These traits will inevitably help me in being a professional/manager who needs to deal with several people and diverse situations.

(5) In school i was also an active member of the interact club which was involved in the organisation of blood donation camps, anti-drug symposiums , health care programs and organisation of programs for handicapped children. I have also been associated with a group called “Saviours Of The Earth” that works towards providing education to underprivileged students.

(7)Hailing from a business family, having studied commerce and having a keen interest in finance I hope to build a career as a financial manager. I believe, that in order To achieve my career goals, I need to learn much more about current developments and techniques in finance, financial markets and financial applications and acquire hands-on experience of financial analysis. A Master's Degree will provide me with theoretical understanding, an in depth idea of practical approaches in aiding managerial decision-making and research skills to enable me to develop an expertise in the core areas of financial strategies and global corporate financial operations.
