The line graph shows changes in the number of cars per families in Great Britain during the period from 1971 to 2007.

It is clear that car ownership in Britain increased over the period of 36 years, with the most significant growth in the households with two cars, while the percentage of households without a car fell.

In 1971, the proportion of British households who didn’t have a car was almost half of all. Around 44% of households had one car, but only about 7% had two cars. Besides that, there were a few families with three or more cars, that kept the ratio of 2% in this category.

From the late 1970’s onwards, the one-car family was the most popular type with the tantamount percentage in 1971. The important change was seen in the proportion of households without a car, which dropped considerably to 24% in 2007. Otherwise, the ratio of two-car families was steadily reaching roughly 26% after the 36-year period, and homes with more than two cars held 5%.
