The charts compare the amount of water used for agriculture, industry and families all around the world, and water consumed in Brazil and Democratic Republic of Congo.

It is evident that the worldwide water necessity increased considerably during the period from 1990 to 200, with the largest growth in agriculture. We also can see that water consumption in Brazil is higher than in the Congo.

In 1990, the amount of water which used for agriculture was around 500 km3. The figures for the industrial use sector and the domestic use sector stood at a fifth of that amount. By 2000, global water used for agriculture had risen to 3000 km3, and there had been an increase of almost half of that amount in industry. Besides that, the domestic use sector had reached roughly 500 km3.

In the year 2000, the populations of Brazil and the Congo were 176 million and 5.2 million correspondingly. Moreover, water consumption per person in Brazil was 359 m3, much higher than the Congo’s amount, at 8 m3, and this could be explained that the Congo had 265 times less irrigated land.
