As a final note, don't waste time in taking action toward assuming control of your life. As a general rule, it's usually better to do something than not do it.

I think this is badly worded. My guess is that the speaker wants to say, "Don't hesitate/delay in taking action..." (In other words, taking action toward assuming control of your life is a good thing, and you should do it as soon as possible.) To me, the wording "don't waste ti
