Hi,
I know that the word "space" could be countable and uncountable depending on how it is used. Is it correct to say:
"..................they walk away into an empty space trying to close the gaps of the path." I know my question is a little off topic, I am sorry about that.

I believe it is a figure of speech and you shouldn't take it literally.

Or, it could mean stage directions - for the players to walk to the part of a stage set that has no props or scenery. There could even be a fog released to give an illusion of floating.

I presume that the 'gaps of the path' are the lonely, loveless moments of the path of life, which in this case is just 'empty space', not filled with meaningful relationships.

However, I find the sentence very, very vague as it stands.
