Help me to understand some sentences

hello. I have difficulty understanding some sentences below.


(1) Lafarge now faces a criminal inquiry by the French economy ministry and a lawsuit in France by human rights groups and former employees charging it with war crimes and crimes against humanity for paying the Islamic State for security, safe passage for employees and raw materials

the sentence with yellow means : former employees of Lafarge are charged with war crimes (?)why that sentence uses that form? subject + v-ing... Thank you.

"former employees charging it with war crimes" is not a phrase.

Lafarge faces two things:

  • a criminal inquiry by the French economy ministry
  • a lawsuit in France by human rights groups and former employees

"charging it with war crimes ..." further modifies "lawsuit", i.e. tells us the nature of the lawsuit.
