Help Me To Improve My Esssay, Please.

Topic: Some companies sponsor sport and sports stars as a way to advertise themselves. Some people think it is good, while others think there are disadvantages. Discuss both views and give your opinion.


In this competitive world, a wide range of companies have advertised themselves by several strategies such as providing funding for sports clubs or sports stars. Although it is believed that this trend can attribute to several drawbacks, I agree with those who regard this campaign as a great movement.

Opponents of this view believe that advertising through sports events is a deceptive way of marketing commercial goods. With increased commercialization of athletics and other sports activities, there is a higher chance of sportsmanship corruption. Furthermore, it would result in impulsive buying as people would be encouraged to purchase products which they rarely use in daily life. For instance, people buy products just because it is endorsed by their favorite football or basketball player.

On the other hand, I would agree with people who assume that these drawbacks pale in comparison to the significant benefits of this trend. First, since some tournaments of football such as World Cup or Championship and so on have covered around the world, advertisers are able to make the most of these events to build up brand awareness among global viewers. Heineken company, for instance, which has been the main donor for UEFA Champions League for 5 years, always appears in spotlights of almost the number of football matches. Second, by pouring money into sports, this means that sports stars are paid higher salaries and train full-time to raise not only their standards but also quality of matches. Furthermore, sports clubs are able to exploit the amount of finance which is provided by advertisers to recruit and train new talent, gaining more achievements as a result.

To sum up, Certainly, sponsoring sports events is not only promoting sports but also providing chances to new sportsmen. However, the negative outcomes of these promotions cannot be denied. I personally believe that whether companies are promoting games for their own interest but these are beneficial for promoting sports at all.
