Topic: Should teachers wear uniforms or have a dress code?
It is pretty common that students in the United States do not wear uniforms, in contrast with other countries that commonly have schools with uniforms, such as most of south American countries. Is not it too much informal if even the teachers do not wear uniforms?. Wearing uniforms is a way to establish a formality in a school or to maintain an order in a school. Therefore, it is important to have uniforms for a good function in any school. Albeit students do not wear any uniform commonly in the US, at least teachers should do it because they are the ones that have authority in the school. Furthermore, to visually distinguish from students.
First of all, a teacher without authority is such a soldier without a weapon. One of the most important things that a teacher needs to do is to know how to control the discipline in the classroom in order to keep it like a comfortable place to learn for the students, maintaining it silenced and without a disorder. According to psychologists, the way a person dress is important to distinguish from other people. Therefore, if a teacher wears a uniform, it will help him to keep the authority that he needs and to make students know that the teacher is not at the same level as they (in the school context) and by this reason they owe him respect.
Secondly, when teachers wear uniforms it is also useful by to simply distinguish visually from students. For example, this problem is not commonly seen in schools where students wear uniforms because students distinguish from the teacher, therefore, it is not a major problem. On the other hand, in schools where everyone dress common clothes, it is a problem because it is much hard to identify one teacher from a class of 30 students. Also, it would be even harder if it is a high school class because there is much more probability that the teacher be confused with a student because of the probable similar ages between them. This last situation could be decreased if the teacher wears a uniform.
