Help me to disentangle a sentence

Hi all, can somebody help me to disentangle a sentince? Here I have following sentence:

"Consider a portfolio of returns formed from a vector of N risky assets". What is the more detailed meaning of this:

My 1st guess:
Consider a portfolio of returns, where portfolio is formed from a vector of N Risky assets.

My 2nd guess:
Consider a portfolio of returns, where returns are formed from a vector of N Risky assets.

What is the most correct guess here?

Thanks for your time.

After looking at the terms being used, I take a different view altogether. A portfolio is group of assets or securities--not of returns. Returns are the profits from the assets.
