The given line chart demonstrates how the population aged over 65 year-old changed in three countries: USA, Sweden and Japan over the period of 100 years.
As is observed from the graph, the percentage of people from 65 year-old increased significantly and in Japan, the figure reached a peak in 2040.
In 1940, the figure for people was over 65 in the USA was the highest among the three countries (just about 9%) while its in Sweden was about 7%. After that, there was a sharp rise in the percentage of the population was over 65 in Sweden (from 7% to 25% in 2040). The proportion in the USA witnessed a significant rise by about 14% (from 9% in 1940 and will up to about 23% in 2040)
In Japan, there was a moderate decrease of about 2% from 1940 to 1960. Over the period of 20 years, the proportion of the population aged 65 and over remained stable, hovering at 3%. But during the next 60 years, a dramatic increase was experienced in the percentage in the population of Japan and reached a peak at about 27% and it will become the highest percentage among three countries in 2040.
