 The world around us is changing every minute and we as people need to be informed of our surroundings with the latest technology available to us.  News is essential in our daily lives.  We depend on it to acknowledge and gain awareness of what is happening in our world.  Without the news, people would be naïve as to what is going on.  If the news was unavailable to us, important reports of the war in Iraq would be impossible.  People can receive the news through a variety of sources such as magazines, newspapers, television, and so on.  However, I disagree with Neil Postman that television news distorts our perception of the world and serves as just another form of entertainment.

               News is at the tip of our fingertips; People can no longer simply rely on the newspaper to supply us all the news that they long for around the world.  They can get it as soon as it comes on as opposed to waiting for newspaper to come out.  Postman states: “T.V news shows give nearly no information and even less knowledge.”  I disagree with this statement because people can instantly find stock reports, sport scores, or world news by watching the television such as local channel or CNN.  We no longer have to wait for tomorrow’s newspaper issue of the New York Times to find out what’s going on.  We can just simply watch five or ten o’clock news on channel 4 and 6 on local channel and find out what is happening around us.  

               Television news is not distorts our perception of the world.  CNN is one of the biggest news channels such as headlines, weather, sport, and business, of the world.   The news operates 24 hours a day, and 7 days per week.   WDSU, Fox, and others news channels bend the truth about the story to attract more viewers.  For instance, there are many false stories about rapes and violence of the hurricane Katrina.  During hurricane Katrina, I could find a lot of useful information includes: what are FEMA and Red Cross phone numbers, how to apply for trailer, and how to receive help from the government, by watch CNN.  Unlike other channels, CNN is the most reliable and the most convenient channel report the news to the people.  Postman states: “the media will use such words as fit their fancy, but we are not required on that account to allow their words to become ours.”
