In a number of countries, some people think it is necessary to spend large sums of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between cities. Others believe the money should be spent on improving existing public transport.Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

While many are of the opinion that major transport funding should be used for building rapid intercity systems. Others support the idea of spending money on ameliorating current public transport system. This essay discusses both views before reaching a reasonable conclusion.

To begin with, the initial reason why many people think that government should be more heavily invested in intercity rail networks is that it shorten our commute. It is undeniable that these types of means of transport move faster than other public transport. Furthermore, residents will probably not have to drive a lot if they have enough rapid transports in that vehicle exhaust emission will be curb, leading to prevent air pollution more efficiently. Moreover, in the long run, these fast trains will bring cities closer together, stimulating economic growth. Japan famously has one of the superb high-speed train network in the world which help many Japanese workers save their valuable time and this is an important factor that makes Japan become one of the cleanest and wealthiest nation.

On the other hand, public transports always have a reasonable price and this allows residents who need them the most, especially students and low-wage earners, to afford them. If public transports are not upgraded enough many people who are poverty-stricken will unable to travel to work. Moreover, investing in rapid intercity systems require a great deal of effort, cutting-edge technologies and subsidies. Therefore, in many developing countries such as Vietnam whose, a variety of plan of building these systems was unfinished owing to lack of financial support and the commitment of the government. As a result, many investors got into debt.

To conclude, the government should strike a balance between spending money on high-speed networks and public transport in the sense that it fulfils the demands of virtually all citizens
