Help me please rewrite this simple sentence

Hello, I am writing an email and have this sentence:

I explained the community interest, and showed a map of the highlighted proposed trails to gauge interest.

Can someone help me rewrite this sentence so it doesn't repeat 'interest'.

It is bothering me because the word 'interest' I feel perfectly matches both sides of what I am trying to say. Just for background, I was gauging interest by employees at an agency. I am trying and thought of other words like feedback, reaction, but I am stumped. I will continue to try. Thank you

I'm not sure I understand the background, but I'll try: Anonymous I explained the community interes t and showed a map of the highlighted highlighting the proposed trails to gauge the staff response. interest.

Yep, you understand the background.

Thank you!

I also came up with: I explained the community interest, and showed a map highlighting the proposed trails to gauge their thoughts.

Which do you think is better? I think yours is, and captures more of what I am trying to staff with 'staff response'.

Thank you so much.

If it's clear who "their" refers to, then your sentence is OK too. Just remove that comma in the middle of it.
