"Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this.

It is sometimes argued that children should be taught becoming a good person in society by their family. But at the same time, some people think that school is the right place to do that. I extremely agree with the first idea.
Family is the most important element of any society. People get their first influences from their parents which activities were done by members in family always impact significantly to personality of each person. For example, children cannot be good if they were raising in a family with violent domestic, from an imperfect family which is absence of mother or father also make they find difficult to complete their personality. But everything changes if children were risen in a good family, they were surrounded love and care.
School is just a small environment around a child, the other factors are also important are living environment, friends, society care, they all help to create a complete environment which is proper to raise a person. School teaches each child about basic knowledge to step readily into the real society. For instance, if a child was risen in an imperfect family will lead to be lack of recognition in their activities, sometimes it strays from society standards. Whereas, if parents know how to direct their children which one is good and should do and inversely.
Overall, school is just a small element that impacts to the personality of a person, the core element in raising children should be started from their family.
