Help me I'm a failure.

Hello. I'm new here. Hi I'm 27 years old and I'm born and raised in United States. I need some help with my problem. I've been taking classes at Atlanta GA in Georgia Gwinnett College. I pass all of my classes so far except this ESL reading 90 program that I'm having trouble with. I tend to read, but not a lot. I've tried and tried to get help from a tutor at the school that they are offering, but none of it is helping me. On Monday's and Wednesday's I stayed after school to get my homework done and go to the tutor for some help. Then I go home at around 5:00 p.m. I spend endless hours at the coop up building. The reading class is the only thing that is holding me back. I graduated high school in the United States in the year 2006. I've been working for my parents to earn some extra cash. Then I got tired of it and waited until I'm 27 married have a one year old kid and went back to college. Then I meet some friends and they pass the exam, but I didn't. They are the same age as I and also have a kids. What can I do? Please help me. I can't do anything else until I'm able to pass the reading 90. This fall season coming up is my third time taking this class. WTF!*

I was born with an heart condition and been taking medication my whole life. One of my left lung isn't functioning properly. I can't get a job because of my heart condition. I've tried and tried to sign up for jobs people are offering, but nothing is helping me.

Have you been tested for dyslexia? That is a condition where your eyes do not properly see written text. Many people that have a hard time reading may have a physical problem. If you do not have any disability, then this is my advice.

A person who plays football or any other sport will not be any good without practice. Lots of practice. Even the best players have to practice.

So you need to do more reading. Reading can give you a lot of enjoyment. Get a library card. Check out books to read to your child. Give your child a head start on reading! Pick out books that are not too easy and not too difficult. If it is too easy, you won't gett good practice. If it is too hard, you will be discouraged.

Check out books on any subject that interests you - how to repair a car, or how to write music, or a biography of a person you admire.

First, you graduated from high school in the US, which is no small matter. One-third of all high school students in the US do not graduate. Second, your writing, as exhibited in your post, is okay - above average I would say. Third, you've passed all of your college courses, except for this ESL 90 reading program, so you obviously can do college-level work. So I'm sure what the problem is.

If it's simply reading skill, then one way to address it is to get a difficult book, that's heavy reading, for example, Moby , or one of the Russian writers, like Dostoyevsky, for example, and just dig in. The reasoning here is: by doing "heavy" reading, "lighter" reading, like that in the ESL 90 course, will then be relatively manageable. This is similar to when an athlete does weightlifting to help him in his sport.

Another thing you should think about is that one does not attend college in a vacuum. What I mean by this is that college is not just books and laboratories and classrooms. College is people: instructors, students, administrators. It's like a job, and like with any job you have to deal well with the people you work with. And not just the people at school, the people at home too are a critical factor. For example, you mentioned that you work for your parents. Do your parents want to work for them rather than go to college? If this is so, then this can be a major obstacle for your college studies. How about your wife? Would she rather you just work for your parents than go off to college? These are things that need to be smoothed over and dealt with, just as surely as with the courses you get in college.

Hello all. Thank you for some great advise. My wife talk to me about this the other night as well. I did not take it to well. I think this to myself and I couldn't get a degree by myself. Since I wasted three years on my studies I best bet to go find a job that suits me well. She also states that I should stay at home and help with the kids and her labor instead of going off to college. She also told me that she need two more years before to can register her mother in law to come to the United States. After they are here I can go back to school and do whatever I want. That is what she told me. Right now she also tells me that I should work at my parent's place to earn some cash before my parent's retired.

My tutor also tells me that I should read to my kids too, but I can't read with a baby that moves around a lot. He tends to grab everything that I have. I can tell you my whole story of my life, but it is really complicated. In fact, I write a book about it since I'm home and have nothing to do.

Would it help you if we suggested some improvements to your text? Sometimes it is difficult to see your own mistakes, but if someone shows you the problems, you can learn. Post here and ask for corrections; you will learn fast!
