help me find a word

We had a power outage, but lights returned in a bit. what word could fit in best? many thanks.

However, I think "in a bit" is OK in past time, as it means "in a short amount of ti

It's very difficult to quantify. I'd agree that e.g. "he came back after a bit" and "he'll be back in a bit" seem the more natural pairings; though no doubt the opposite pairings occur.
