Some people believe that school children should not be given homework by their teachers, whereas others argue that homework plays an important role in the education of children. Discuss both of these views and give your own opinion.

There are some contradictory opinions as to whether or not homework should be given to students by their teachers. While some people claim the setting of homework is unnecessary, I still approve homework to be essential in educational system.

Opposes of homework have a few arguments for the role of homework. Firstly, school children must be tired from a long studying day at school; as a result, they should be relaxed after school time and enjoy other daily activities rather than feel burdened by the completion of homework. Secondly, some people believe that homework is not helpful for students to upgrade their competence. Students may consider it as a compulsory task and try to finish with little serious concentration. Hence, homework is not just as beneficial as teachers expected.

In contrast, from my perspective, homework should be included to improve students’ educational outcomes. Homework enables school children to consolidate the knowledge they acquired from teachers and accomplish tasks at their own pace. It is common that at school, teachers need to follow the general speed of class which sometimes makes it hard for some specific students to keep up with. Doing homework by themselves becomes an effective strategy to revise and recall lessons. Besides, doing homework encourages independent learning and problem solving from students. For example, some subjects such as Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry require students to learn a variety of formulas and apply in practical exercises. Homework is an essential part so that students are challenged through hard tasks, from then show their intelligence in dealing with them.

In conclusion, the benefits of homework outweigh its drawbacks in the long term. It not only helps school children revise concept taught by teachers but also creates a good opportunity for them to prove their learning capacity.
