What is the difference between using "I had seen you sometimes there at the university but I don't know you had seen me or not" and writing as you did, "I saw you sometimes there at the university, but I don't know whether you saw me or not." I think how Anon wrote doesn't seem to be a wrongly written sentence, since there is a reference point in terms of its time line
