I drew a piece of article from this website.http://www.cbsnews.com/news/did-donald-trump-say-hed-refuse-to-take-a-salary-as-president/

'From the very beginning, Trump has promised that he’d set businesses concerns aside if he was elected. In fact, he told “Face The Nation” moderator John Dickerson last October that he’s been “phasing out” his role throughout his campaign.
“Look, I would cut all ties.... I wouldn’t care about it,” Trump told Dickerson. “My kids will run it. I wouldn’t want to expand very much. It wouldn’t matter to me. I have a chance at making America great again; that’s the whole focus.”
He promised last year that he would refuse to take a salary as president, too.'

I am so confused about the woulds in these sentences especially beginning with "look, I would cut all ties ........". Trump used these sentences after he won the nomination, after he became a presidential candidate. Why was he using 'would'? Shouldn't he have been using 'will'? Thank you.

The fact that it was after the nomination doesn't matter. The important thing is that it was before he was elected president, i.e. at a time when his presidency was still hypothetical.

So, can I understand like this: if he became president, he would cut all ties.?

Also, he could have just said, I will cut all ties (if I am elected president.) Why did he choose will over would? I believe he could use both will and would in the context. please reply.

Yes.

"will" is definite, "would" is hypothetical/softened.

AnonymousBy the way he was nominated before in july, 2015.
Oh, OK, I thought he was nominated only this year. We are obviously talking about different "nominations".
