Hi,
I am a French Student who would like to apply for a GDL and have to write down a cover letter.
Before I subit my application, I would like to know if someone could take a look at my grammatical mistakes, I will be very grateful ! :-)
Here is my letter :
« As a third-year student at Paris II Panthéon-Assas Law School, I would like to join a Graduate Diploma in Law in London.
I worked for few month this year as an intern at Laouini Avocat, which is a Law Firm specialized in business law based in Paris. I had a chance to work on both individual cases and policy research. I've learnt a lot about how a business law firm works, how to deal with a case, how to manage clients, how legal procedures work. Nevertheless, I quit my internship because that law firm was a newly created law firm and didn't match with my expectations.
With an entrepreneur mindset, I started my company a few months ago on the mobile app with a team of 10 engineers. Also, I have started a subsidiary on crypto-currencies trading which is faring well.
In parallel, I'm completing my third-year in double bachelor's degree in law and economics while I workout at least 4 times a week.
My first legal experience teaches me a lot about the legal labour market. What got my attention is that the highest law firm is British and based in London.
Consequently, I made the decision of applying for the GDL which is a better path to work in a British law firm than a French diploma in law. Moreover, the GDL will pave the way for the BPTC if I'd like to work as a barrister in my career.
Moreover, I'm interested in the British law (more than the American one) because I would like to have all the doors open for my career, from London to New Delhi and the British legal system is the most widespread around the world, particularly in India.
Indeed, I have Indian background from my parents. That's one of the reasons I choose the GDL. The British law degree is well valued in India because the French law degree didn't give me too much in this commonwealth country. If I'd like to settle in India and come back home one day, my French law degree is unuseful because my GDL will pave me the way.
From London, I will also get some accommodations. Indeed, my family is from Bangladesh and we have a lot of family in England, and especially in London who can back me up if I intend to settle in.
Considering all my experiences and my ambition, I don't have any choice except apply for a GDL in London. My bachelor's degree in French law based on :
Public law and Public Sector Finance,
European Union law,
Criminal law,
Tort,
Contract law,
Land law,
Business Law
and my bachelor's degree in Economics-Management based on :
Mathematics
Statistics
Financial and Management accounting
Monetary and financial systems
Monetary macroeconomics
Macroeconomic analysis
I am aware of the amount of work which is required to pass the GDL. Nevertheless, I am also aware that I have followed in my French law degree 90 % of the course of the GDL so I am very confident about my ability to follow the course.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon and I am thankful for your time and attention. »
