Help for motivation letter for new research position

Dear Prof Dr. MMMM,

I am writing to apply for the position of Specialist in Landscape Modelling, as advertised on your website. I obtained my master degree in Environmental Protection from the University of XXX and Geo-informatics and remote sensing from the University of YYY in April 2015 and March 2011, respectively. I respectfully submit this letter of motivation, for I believe my experience and commitment to research make me a qualified candidate to meet the criteria of the position.

As my CV indicates, research has been an important part of my career both in X and Y research center. My recent experience with X research centre as GIS Analyst/Natural Resource Management included Land use/land cover change analysis, GIS modelling, map creation as well as creating and managing of geodatabase. I also took the opportunity, while working, to learn about land-use simulation model (Markov Chain ) and spatial pattern analysis software (FRAGSTATS, InVEST). My responsibilities as a research assistant in Y Research Centre included analysing the impacts of land-use/cover change and its effects on soil properties and ecosystem services at landscape level, collect and evaluating socioeconomic data to identify the responsible factors behind Land use/cover change and preforming landscape pattern analysis. In addition, I was part of regional research team working on climate variability and climate change research.

The MSc programme at the University of X and Y covered a wide range of topics including but not limited to soil science, matter cycling, ecology, Global change issues, advanced GIS, photogrammetry and remote sensing. My recent thesis at the University of X was entitled “Land Use/Land Cover Dynamics, and their Ecological Implications in ZZZ Lakes Basin." The thesis investigated the Land use/Land cover change of the basin, identified the driving forces behind the change and its implications to the local ecology. Currently I am preparing an article from this work for publication in peer-reviewed journal. Attending graduate-school with international students reinforced my communication skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of people from different cultures. My research experience in tropical agriculture, my strong skill in special data analysis and my deepen knowledge of ecosystem functions and properties in a changing landscape along with my graduate-school experience are assets that I would bring to your research team.
