CliveFor 'fill in each blank with a word' tasks, I try to avoid having too many consecutive blanks.

About your suggestion, there's no problem at all. I have to tell you that on the previous pages, the students have the whole sentences with drawings and examples. I've done it this way for many years and they have never had any problems with it, believe me. In case you want me to send you by email one of the chapters, I will. If not, how would they know what the exercises is about?

It seems to me that the focus should be on speaking English rather than on speaking about English, and that the usefulness of the lesson should be apparent to them from what they learn to say or write.

Personally, I would never say to a class, eg 'Good morning. Today you are going to learn to negate quantities..'

But teachers have choices every day, and approaches can vary. Do what works for you.

Or are you writing a text-book? I've been assumuing in all our various posts that you are standing up in a class-room and interacting with students., perhps handing out exercise pages. No?

Hi Clive,

Yes, I'm writing a text book. In fact, it's almost done, just for beginners though. Now, the thing is that these lots of directions I'm asking about are for a web page. So the students won't be in front of me. I can't give additional explanations to the directions. That's why the directions must be so detailed in order to be understood by the students at once.

Hi Clive,

First of all, thank you for your concern. But the answer is yes. Because is Spanish is very similar, 'El propósito es determinar, confimar, o negar cantidades'.

The sentence you are referring to is, 'There are a lot of people in picture one' next one, 'There are some people in picture two'. etc. And the question is, 'How many people are there in picture 1 / 2/ 3 / etc.?'

At this point they are learning quantity words for plural and uncountable nouns.
