Help For A Sentence

"Under a tree in this commanding yet neglected spot was an old ramshackle wooden seat"

I couldn't understand the first part of the sentence "Under a tree in this commanding yet neglected spot"

Hi Volcano, It would help your understand, perhaps, if there were commas. " The spot (general location) was commanding (it had a good view, I expect) but it was also neglected (no one kept it up, maintained it). There was a tree in this place, and the seat was under the tree.
