Letter Writing

help for a motivation letter! thanks you!!

Hi everybody,

I am trying to find a job since almost 6 months and I barely got 1 interview. I came to the point that it was my motivation letter that was wrong . I've been reading a lot of motivation letters from this web site and learning a lot from them! So I've been re-writing it. I would be extremely grateful if somebody could have a look at it and help me to improve it.
Thank you very much :-)

Catherine from Belgium

Dear Sir,

I would like to apply for the position as Scientist - Fisheries Resources for XX Centre (from your web site: XXX). I am pursuing an international career in the humanitarian field and I trust I could be a valuable asset for your organisation, thanks to the experience I have gained, during my PhD and other assignments.

I am a Marine Biologist and finished my PhD in 2003. My field research included underwater video/photography,
underwater visual census, behavioural observation work, acoustic biotelemetry, automated behavioural observation
in tanks (EthoVision), etc. Also, I had the opportunity to use extensively GIS applications (ArcView) and to develop
strong statistic analysis skills. Also, I am familiar with the use of databases.

From October 1998 to December 2003, I was working on a behavioural ecology research project in Corsica (France) and in . For this project I had the opportunity to set up and organise the whole research scheme, but also to control the budget allowed for this research.

Moreover, after my PhD, I worked on the benefits of MPAs to fisheries (in the Azores) and with artificial coral reefs (in and the Caymans). This permits to developed strong organizational- and time management skills, and enhanced my data analysis- and writing skills.

Since a long time, I have a long term goal: to work for an international organisation in the humanitarian field and participate in the global effort to eradicate poverty and hunger.

I have been living and working in various distinct cultural, social and religious environments, and equipped with a working knowledge of English, French, Dutch and Portuguese as well as basic knowledge of Russian and German, I believe that I possess the necessary qualities and abilities to pursue a professional career in development and humanitarian activities.

Thank you in advance for considering my application, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you require further information.

Yours sincerely,
