The question is:
Today people in different countries can see the same movies, watch the same TV programs and follow the same fashions. To what extent do you think this is a positive development?

Following is my essay.

As the technology is advancing, movies, TV programs and fashion are increasingly accessible to people over the world. However, many people start to argue about whether this phenomenon has positive impact on us. From my point of view, I agree that it brings human many advantages, but it has short comes too.

Convincing argument can be made that same movies, TV programs and fashions could benefit people in different countries. To start with, I would like to point out that people who watch the same movies and TV programs or follow same fashions are more likely to have same values. In other words, it makes people easier to communicate to each other. Moreover, movies and TV programs is an excellent tool to promote culture and people of a country. Therefore, it could make other parts of the world to understand this country easier and better. For example, the America soap opera show “Friends” is showing part of the American culture and it became a useful tool for people who are interested in America to learn its culture. Lastly, follow the same fashions could reduce costs for cloths companies. Try to imagine the “one design suite all” situation which can make manufacturers spend less money on making different designs for different regions.

On the other hand, it is not without any risks by people to have same movies, TV programs and fashions globally. One argument could be made in favor of this is that it makes the world lost its diversity. The reason is that people who watch same movies, TV programs and follow same fashions are tend to establish similar values and believes, event this means they need to give up their cultures and believes. Even so, the local education and society still can influence individuals in the sense of cultures and believes, and to avoid such thing happen. For example, many people in my age watched a vast number of American TV shows, but they are still with Chinese culture because of impacts which came from education and surrounding people.

In conclusion, I would concede that it has drawbacks for people in different countries to watch same movie and TV programs, and follow same fashions. Despite that, people received more benefits. Overall, I am convinced that we should keep open arms to them, and we should learn from them but not follow them blindly.
