Hello, I am applying for a Human Rights Master Programme. I have never written a motivation letter so I really have no idea if it's right. I have to write 500 words maximum (it's 498 now). any help appreciated
I hope that through this essay I might explain to you the reasons that stand behind my motivation to become a ***** student. It is my highest aspiration to study and work in the field of International Politics and human rights, in particolar to pursue a career in intergovernmental bodies or NGOs that deal with this topic. As a committed, hard-working person with a strong interest in human rights and the ambition to work in this field, I believe that I am a fitting candidate for ****. My determination, will to better myself and curiosity have always been what guided my every decision. That is how I succeeded in obtaining two University grants for academic merit, despite having worked since I started University to contribute to realize one of my long-standing dreams: traveling and exploring new cultures. It is thanks to this interest that I joined, when I was 16, the organisation *****, a UNESCO partner NGO dedicated to educating for peace through cultural exchanges, and whose projects are aimed to build inter-cultural friendship and cooperation. Working on **** projects made me understand for the first time how every human being is equal, and that it is our common duty to work and build a more just and egalitarian world. The seed of my passion for international politics and human rights was planted, and it bloomed when I chose to attend a Bachelor in Languages and International Relations at *****, from which I graduated in December 2014 with excellent results. Studying languages and cultures such as the English, Spanish, French and Arabic one has made me eager to open my mind and to travel as much as possible to learn on the field - as my CV shows. Meanwhile, my better understanding of International Law and Relations has fueled my passion for human rights. During University, I decided to join *****, an association founded by some students of UCSC that promotes education to diversity and intercultural dialogue. In 2014, as a **** member I took part in the organisation of a traveling exhibit dedicated to the Arab Spring and the coexistance between Muslims and Christians in Egypt, despite terrorism and violence. Reasearching for the ehxibit and meeting people during its presentation – journalists, professors, politicians but also common people - deepened my knowledge and awareness on the topic of human rights, freedom and the value of life. Through a volunteering project with Syrian children refugees in **** I also raised my awarness on the problem of war refugees and immigration, which is very dear to me and very actual in Europe at the moment. ***** corresponds to everything I am looking for in a Masters’ Programme: with its dynamic structure, prestigious faculty and multicultural student body is the perfect environment to develop extensive competencies for my academic and professional future, and to grow not only as a student and human rights professional, but as a person.
thanks!!!!
