When we talk about "chemistry" in terms of relationship, Do it only talk about the two people who are attracted to each other, I mean the attraction between a male and a female?

eg. Jennifer and Jack are close but chemistry wasn't there.

Can the word "chemistry" be used to talk about relationships between just friends, boss and a manager or other relationships? Thank you in advance.
