Help

My brother told me that he had gone to shoping two days before.
I said him today" if you went for shopping you could have bought something for me but you didn't " is this correct

teechr I also think he should have used "told" instead of "said". The whole sentence seems ambiguous, though.

But my concern is if we change a bit it could be total a conditional sentence.
For example.
If you had gone shopping you could have bought something for me.
It means he didn't go shopping and didn't buy.
So how we can know that what is the meaning. ?
Is that all depends on contexts?
