I'm writing a letter to an M.P. regarding the Syrian refugee crisis for my English coursend am worried about the punctuation in this paragraph, can anybody help?
I have heard many arguments against taking in refugees: public services are already stretched; housing is scarce and jobs equally so; terrorists could pose as refugees in order to get in to Britain. None of these really hold water when you consider the amount of economic migrants we take in each year from all over the world. We must prioritise our intake and help those most in need.
Top answer
The punctuation is OK. It should be "number of economic migrants", not "amount of". "amount of" is for uncountable things.
