Hello editors, or anyone who's willing to help. Seeing the amazing work that is done on this forum, I was wondering if somebody is willing to look over my letter of motivation for an undergraduate course that I'm applying to? Thank you.

Here's the letter:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am applying to your college’s Liberal Arts and Sciences programme with a major in ‘Sciences’ for entry in the Autumn 2012 term.

I graduated from high school with an International Baccalaureate Diploma in which I took English A1, Physics, and Maths as my Highers and History, French A2, and Politics as my Standards. These subjects, though, do not encompass all of my interests as I have also been curious about Philosophy and involved in Drama for several years now. Furthermore, I truly enjoy various works of literature on different topics, ranging from classics such as Candide or Ben Jonson’s The Alchemist to books on political thought, such as The Prince or 1984.

For me, one of the primary reasons for choosing **** was its diverse multicultural community. Having studied in international schools in Lithuania, Bulgaria, and Switzerland, I have received a lot of exposure to different cultures and have befriended people from all over the world. These friendships have developed my ability to see the world from a different person’s perspective and have taught me many important life lessons. I therefore believe that the atmosphere created by a society composed of young hardworking individuals from varied cultural backgrounds could help me further develop intellectually as well as personally.

Another significant factor that influenced my decision was the structure of your Liberal Arts and Sciences programme. The possibility to create a personalised curriculum is very important for me because even though I have a set goal in life, which includes specialising in a course akin to your field of knowledge called ‘Information’, I also want to persevere in the study of my other interests. I therefore find your programme to be perfect for me as it allows me do this, as well as to take on new courses and new challenges. Such a prospectus prepares me for both a career and everyday life by making me into a citizen of the world.

The reason I want my concentration to be ‘Information’ is that I’ve always been intrigued by computers, how they work, and the speed at which they are evolving. The most interesting part, for me, is that if Moore’s Law holds true, it is only a matter of time before these machines become faster and more powerful than even the human brain. Due to this, I have a dream to get a Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence, and one day to aid in the creation of the first computer to pass the Turing Test. I believe that attending *** and having the privilege to study under such great names of the industry as Prof. Dr. **** ****, will set me on my path towards achieving that goal.

Not only would I gain a lot from a college like ****, but I would also give a lot back. I would gladly share my friendly and helpful personality, as well as my enthusiastic mind-set with my classmates. I would also love to participate in and use my previous experiences from Nepal and Tajikistan in any of the community engagement programmes on offer.
