What is called in english when someone falls and their head hits the ground first? Someone told me it is "fall upside down" but I am not sure whether it is correct or not. Can anyone help?

Also, "took a header," perhaps AmE.

I've heard, "land upside down," but not "fall upside down."

Oh yes, of course. She took a header on the ice. (Naturally, falling directly on your head would be quite likely to cause serious harm.)

However, "Fell head first" is less colloquial.

Hi, Barb. How about, I fell head first over the @%$## dog ?

I take it as not necessarily landing directly on your head, but your head definitely leading the way.
(because your feet are obstructed unexpectedly)

Well, that's why you get when you leave your dog lying just anywhere in the house!

Yes, I would say "fell head first" but that doesn't carry -- just as you said -- that the person's head actually hit the ground. Most people would be able to break that fall.

We have an old black lab (relatively my age) who deliberately lies in the way. We have to leave lights on all night so we can see him!
