Help

Help me understand the underlined part of the dialog:

1st person: Mid-life career change?
2nd person: I prefer to think of it as maybe a third
of the way through my life career change.

Just a guess: If normal life-expectancy is 80 years, a 40 year-old person would be at mid-life. If he prefers to think of himself as only one-third of the way through his life, then he expects/hopes to live to the age of 120 years. Edit.

  • Another analysis could be: Although he's actually age 40 he prefers to think of himself as being only age 26.

Hi guys,

I doubt that the speaker is doing such precise mental math. He's just saying 'Hey, I'm not really old enough to have a mid-life career change.'
