Help

1.I can speak some Italian as I have studied Italian.

2.I can speak some Italian as I studied Italian.


Which is the correct sentence out of the above two sentences?

You may have studied Italian 3 months ago or 10 years ago. Even today you have a smattering of Italian. I am not sure to judge the correct sentence.

They are both correct, and there is no difference in meaning and only a slight difference in style. have studied looks at it from the viewpoint of a list of things done: "the study of Italian" in on the list of things in my diary. studied looks at it from the viewpoint of an accomplishment.

studied looks at it from the viewpoint of an accomplishment. "the study of Italian" is something I did.
