"I ate so manystrawberries that I felt as if I was going to vomit"

Is the sentence above coorect?
Could it be 'much' if we don't refer to every single strawberry?
Could I put 'were'?
Thanks

Hi, Mav! strawberry is countable, so you need "many". And I think that "were" is THE grammatically correct, although you'll hear "was" more and more...

Hi Anne,

I thought this way: here we compare two cases:
1) How I feel
2) How I would feel if I were going to vomit

But since the probability of the statement is almost CERTAIN we should use 'was', shouldn't we? Like in 'I felt THAT I was going to vomit'.

Or we use 'was' when we are undertain about something?
Like in:
'If felt as if [it were true

Yes, maybe it could work, but with a verb in the singular, then:
"I ate so much strawberry I felt as if I was going to throw up" (vomit in this case might be a bit too ... scientific?
But, well, I still don't like the "too much strawberry"; it gives the image, but...

Hello Anne,

I don't exactly understand how the plurality of 'strawberry' changes the form of 'be'...
Did you mean that 'much' increases the point that 'throwing up' is more certain?

It doesn't sorry, my mistake!
I meant singular with strawberry!

Anne, I am completely confused now by what you meantEmotion: smile
Could you exemplify what you meant ? Thank you

Sorry, Mav...
I ate so many strawberries that I felt as if I was going to vomit"

if you use "much" instead of "many", then the following noun (strawberries) will have to be in the singular: "strawberry"
"I ate so much strawberry that I felt as if I was going to throw up"
I don't really like "too much strawberry", but then I'm not a native E. speaker...

Ohhh OK got you...
I thought it was to influence 'was\were' here...

By the way what do you think about my confusion? :

I'd say #a
"was" is more certain, more like the reality.
"were" is unreal, like a comparison.
