I'm not ignoring your posting, cruzlopes, I have just never heard anything like that expression. The closest I can come to it is 'the ghost in the machine'.

It is a reference to a fairy tale called The Wolf and the Seven Kids.

The goat who hid in the tall grandfather clock was the only one not eaten by the wolf!

Just guessing now, but I think "a goat in the clock" would mean "a person who is always lucky", "a person who always gets by, is always saved, even in dangerous times", or something quite similar.

I was asked by a friend about the " goat ...". I read the phrase and it was referring to a girl, whose name was Consuela... I'll contact my friend to check if it makes sense.
