Societies vary by location in the world. In Ladakh, it may slightly vary from the region you're in. In a village in Ladakh there is beliefs, behaviors, ideas and culture difference with what we are accustomed to. These factor's contribute to Ladakh's developing society. Ladakh's society is backward because of their relationship with each other, work in agriculture, and their belief of being real economists.
While the Ladakhis' culture might make them seem primitive, they have an dependent relationship with each other that allows them to progress. Each family belongs to a group of a household in which they help each other from birth, in marriage, and death. Everyone lives together, works together, eats together, and sleeps together. They are very cooperative and are able to ask neighbors or relatives from far away for help. They are certain in being able to rely on each other for help with only food being served to eat and offering help in return. This cooperation between one another contributes to a developing society by building strong communities, peace with each other and equal work for everyone. This is showing Ladakh's slow progression.
While cham dances may seem ancient, the ways of work in agriculture of the Ladakhis are more sophisticated than those of ancient times. From their dependent relationship, they work in “rares”, in shifts by two. One day a family will herd the animals and the next day the next family will. They use both human and animal power that helps a lot when harvesting. By using their agriculture ways, from surplus grain they have more than enough food for an entire year. They also use handmade tools like a water powered mill used for grinding grain. This is their advanced technology that they have so far which is very effective. They are starting to use new technology and effective ways to improve themselves.
As Buddhist philosophy ties back to prehistoric times, the Ladakhis are the “Real economists” of this time. The Ladakhis don't waste anything but maximize their resources. They use everything they have at hand like wood, stones, grass, and water. They are able to make food, medicine, and even bricks from mud and straws. They are the ones who are more eco friendly, because they take care of the natural resources more than we do. They are advanced in this area because they are more stable in taking care of the resources available to them. This helps increase their growth as a Ladakh society.
The Ladakh society are a developing backward one. Their society is a backward developing one because of their strategies in agriculture, by their belief in “real economists”, and their bond. They work as a close community, improve their strategies in agriculture and help save the earth while making many things that nature gives them. Ladakh could be a model to others in this area of being “real economists”. They find practical ways to make basic things from natural resources. If the world slowly changed to being “real economists” it would be beneficial for everyone.
