Hello ! What's the difference between...

a swot
a boner
a gomer
a crammer
a marksman
a bookworm
a grind

Do they all mean the same ? Do they all refer only to learning ? Are any of them more vulgar , pejorative , offending etc. than the rest ?

And talking about learning...when you learn to much...you 'cram' , 'bone up' and what else ?

Thanx a lot !

They all basically relate to studiers. (1) 'Swot' is a derogatory term. (2) '*****', 'crammer' and 'grind' are similar and relatively objective, but a 'grind' can also be someone plugging away at his boring occupation.

Would a 'marksman' be someone who only cared about 'marks' (i.e. for his schoolwork), I wonder?

A 'gomeril' is an archaic term for a fool; but your context seems to require someone with a 'studious' character.

'Gomer' doesn't sound like BrE school slang. Is it US-only? perhaps more recent? (For some reason it also sounds vaguely biblical.)
