Essay & Composition Writing

Hello, Please help me edit :)

hi, I am writing 2 responses for 2 stories, A Rose for Emily and Everyday Use. My grammar is weak. Please help edit my papers. Thanks!

In A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, Miss Emily is a victim of her father who was a staunch supporter of the old Confederacy. Like other Southern plantation owners, her father devastated because their way of life was altered after the civil war. He dominated her. His shelter makes her naïve and totally relies on him. Not only that, he prevented her from getting marry until his death. He thought everyone was beneath her. Therefore, Emily is alone because of her father’s strict standards for a potential husband. In addition, society affects her greatly as well. The town people set her apart. They observe her from afar like a museum piece. They also mercilessly judge and criticize her. When she seeks company from Homer Barron, she hopes to end her loneliness. However, Homer prefers men. Driven of fear of being alone, she poisons him and sets his dead body on her bed. Apparently, she sleeps next to Homer’s rotten corpse for years.

In Everyday Use by Alice Walker, characters Dee and Maggie represent two different types of people. Dee is outgoing and successful whereas Maggie is shy and cowardly around her sister. The story’s theme is about family and heritage. Dee embraces her heritage by looking at African traditions and ideas; she changes her name to Wangero. On the other hand, Mrs. Johnson and Maggie define heritage by their family lineage from their mother and grandmother, both of whom were raised in America. They story’s climax comes very close to the end when Dee asks for the quilts which are symbols of their heritage. Dee wants the quilts to show off her heritage, not to embrace them like her mother and sister do. At that moment, their mother reverses the way things have been throughout their lives and gives Maggie the quilts. This shows that Mrs. Johnson does not appreciate Dee’s idea of heritage. The story shows us that heritage and family are not always the same.
