Hello, need a little language help with my research study!

Hello, i am from Turkey and i am writing the "findings" part of my research. I can't really decide which form of this paragraph is the best to use in a scientific study.

In the first three paragraphs, i just want to know which structure is the best.
The last paragraph is the same with the third one except the first three use past tense, and the forth paragraph uses past perfect tense.
In brief, i want to know
1)Which of the first three paragraph builds is the best one for a scientific study?
2)Should i use past tense like i did in the first three, or should i use past perfect like i did in the forth paragraph.

Thank you for your kind interest.

Analysis of data revealed that students’ errors could be grouped under five categories which were shown in Table 4.1 along with their frequencies.

1)In the first category, as the students indicated no mathematical understanding, whether their responds were not relevant to fractions or they left the item totally blank. In the second category, students stated that the expression was ‘correct’ or ‘incorrect’ but it was not significant because their drawing and explanations were meaningless. In the third category, students correctly identified the equivalence of fractions but their pictorial representations were unacceptable. In the fourth category students correctly identified equivalence of fractions but they demonstrated limited mathematical knowledge about the subject.

2)Particularly, responses that were not relevant to fractions as they indicated no mathematical understanding or were left totally blank, grouped under the first category; responses that stated the expression was ‘correct’ or ‘incorrect’ but were not significant because of meaningless drawing and explanations, grouped under the second category; responses that correctly identified the equivalency of fractions but with unacceptable pictorial representations, grouped under the third category; responses that correctly identified equivalency of fractions but demonstrated limited mathematical knowledge about the subject, grouped under the forth category.

4)Particularly, responses in which students had indicated no mathematical understanding as their responds were not relevant to fractions, or were left totally blank, grouped under the first category; responses in which students had stated .....

I would use the structure of the first paragraph. It is clearer because it separates each category description into its own sentence. However, I would revise the wording.

If you don't mind, here are a few suggestions. (Note that you need to add a description of the fifth category which was mentioned in the opening.)
