Fresh water has always been a limited resource in some parts of the world. Today, however, growing worldwide demand has made this a global problem.

What are the causes of the increased demand and what measure could governments and individuals take to respond to this problem?

Since immemorial time, salt free water has been scare in several drier parts of the world. Due to the pollution of fresh water reserve, the demand for drinking water seems much more compounding. Thus, it is essential that the causes of record-breaking potable water scarcity should be known to everyone, equally importantly, effective measures need eliciting to cope with this problem.

First of all, the upsurge of urbanization and industrialization is believed to be of the utmost importance in global shortage of saline free water. Second, the boom of population poses such a huge demand for drinking water that natural saline free water reserve could not meet. Finally, the pollution of water in small areas without timing solutions has spread out swiftly in adjacent places, which worsened the situation.

In response to the alarming fresh water shortage, governments should take actions against behaviors that contaminate water sources including reservoirs, rivers and seas. Moreover, a sufficient investment in terms of finance and efforts should go to a sea water purification system which can produce potable water. Last but not least, public awareness of current water shortage as well as practical methods of cutting down on household water usage should be raised.

In short, the issue of fresh water shortage goes absolutely alarming, which should be of transnational concerns. Thus, governmental authorities and individuals both should work out top efficacious solutions to this issue.
