Hello everyone. Could someone answer: Is it the right choice of tenses?

Every year, collecting data on pink salmon has been occurring in the northern part of the Terney district, Samarga and Edinka. Monitoring of the chum salmon has been occurring on the Avvakumovka, Kievka, Barabashevka and Ryazanovka rivers.

First of all, we normally use present simple for regular actions. Since you have "every year", simple present will be appropriate. I think the sentence as it is worded now, sounds odd.
