I'm not the one who asked the question but I saw your post and couldn't get what you meant.

And as far as I'm concerned we can say either "at the hotel" or "in the hotel", can't we? If so, why aren't we allowed to say "at class"? Is there a specific reason for that?

Purely convention. Many expressions are fixed regardless of whether they seem logical or not.
