'Helena or He'lena (Which syllable should be stressed?)

Hi All,

Haven't come here for a long time. How're you doing?

Actually, I've got a quick question about the pronunciation of the name "Helena". Could someone tell me how you pronounce it? I mean, do you stress the first syllable or the second? About the 2nd syllable, do you pronounce it as LIN or LEN (as in "Helen")?

Thanks.

Kathy

I think it's a matter of personal choice.

Traditionally if you wanted to stress the second syllable it would have been written 'Elena' and 'Ellena' if you wanted it to sound like 'Helen' but whatever parents decide is usually accepted.
